Eggs are one of the most nutritious foods you could eat. They contain proteins, vitamins and fats. A healthy diet can contain eggs. But for health-conscious individuals, it begs the question as to whether egg consumption can affect a key molecule in the body, cholesterol.
Do eggs raise your cholesterol?
In the past eggs have had a bad reputation because of the high levels of cholesterol contained in them. But researchers have discovered that consumption of cholesterol is not the major factor in raising LDL cholesterol in the body. Eggs are low in saturated fat.
In about 70℅ of people, egg consumption has no affect on the body’s cholesterol level despite containing a high amount of it. Eggs may stimulate the production of either HDL (good) cholesterol or LDL (bad) cholesterol within the body but the latter occurs in roughly about one third of people who are “hyper-responders.”
Is eating eggs bad for you?
Sometimes eating too many eggs can increase one’s cholesterol level. If someone regularly consumes a triple omelette breakfast, there is a chance that it may trigger the production of bad cholesterol in the body. Also, an individual’s lifestyle choices can also contribute to an increased level of cholesterol.
While the lack of physical activity along with the consumption of foods that are rich in fats can increase one’s cholesterol levels. Eating fiber rich foods helps the body’s natural system of preventing the accumulation of excess cholesterol. Eating excessive carbohydrates such as potatoes, sweets and chocolates, may also negatively affect the cholesterol level of the body.

Why do veggans and ovo vegetarians make an exception for this animal product? Eggs are a nutrient rich food, they contain B-12, iron and 6-7 grams of protein per egg. Egg yolk is also rich in nutrients such as vitamins A, D, E and K, carotenoids and essential fatty acids.
Are egg whites better for you?
The way eggs are prepared also matters. If the egg is under-cooked, then a vitamin called Biotin present in it becomes inactive due to the action of another component called avidin. Hence it must be properly cooked to ensure that the maximum amount of biotin is preserved. Moreover, if you wish to decrease your cholesterol level but don’t want to quit eating eggs, a simple solution is to avoid the yolk and eat the egg white. The egg white is rich in proteins and contains very little cholesterol. By contrast, the yolk contains almost all the cholesterol present in the egg.
Consuming eggs, are not solely responsible for increasing cholesterol levels. Rather it is how they are used along with the lifestyle of the specific individual that play a crucial role in increasing cholesterol levels.
